MY STORY

DakosLogo Sticker.jpg

Dear Viewer,

I am honored to welcome you into a glimpse of my world, where I create art that brings peace and emotional healing. My name is Alex Dakos, and I am an American artist based in Los Angeles. As you explore my world of art, I want to share with you the story of my journey, one that has been shaped by passion, perseverance, and the pursuit of art that matters.

After completing a Associate degree in Art, I found myself facing a defining question: what would I do with the knowledge and passion I had developed? While my heart was always drawn toward creating art, the responsibility of providing for my family led me into the corporate world, where I worked in a marketing agency navigating the rhythm of a traditional 9-to-5 career. During that time, I gained valuable insight into advertising, branding, and creative communication. I even started my own business selling auto parts. Yet despite the professional growth, I felt a quiet but persistent pull back toward the creative path that had always defined me.

In 2016, that pull became impossible to ignore. Something urged me to begin drawing again, and I made a commitment to create every day. I began experimenting with a wide range of mediums—pen and ink, charcoal, oil paint, acrylic washes, colored pencils, graphite, wire, and even wood sculpture. The process was one of exploration and rediscovery, allowing me to reconnect with the joy of creating without limits. As you can see throughout my site I was very interested in the anatomy of animals and humans. Especially the design of the cranium. Nature has been a main focus of much of my work in the past. I also dabbled in surrealism in my younger years and fantasy art, creating fantasy creatures and birds.

As I began sharing my work on Instagram, a small but growing audience started to take notice. The encouragement and support from others inspired me to keep pushing forward and refining my craft. At the time, I was still operating my classic auto parts business, but the idea of becoming a full-time artist was beginning to take root.

In 2017, increasing competition in the auto parts market caused sales to slow significantly, and I ultimately made the difficult decision to close that chapter of my life. Determined to stay connected to creativity, I sought opportunities within the art world and secured a position through a temp agency with a company producing digital artwork for major retailers such as Hobby Lobby. There, I spent about a year learning the technical and commercial aspects of digital illustration, production workflows, and art licensing.

When the company underwent restructuring and my role came to an end, the timing coincided with the beginning of the COVID-19 pandemic. That same year, I married the love of my life, Vanesa, whose support and belief in my creative journey have been invaluable. During that period of uncertainty, we downsized into a small back studio apartment while I worked to rebuild my path forward.

What initially felt like a setback ultimately became the most important training period of my life. Over the next several years, that modest space became the foundation for spirituality, deep artistic growth, discipline, and personal transformation.

My goal moving forward, is to create conceptual artwork that resonates with people who may be navigating their own transitional moments in life. If my work can inspire someone to believe in themselves, to quiet the negative voices, and to move forward with courage and imagination, then it has served its purpose. My first painting of this series is entitled 'Belief' and found in my original paintings.

1.  Which type of content do you personally like to do the most?

I really enjoy inking on Claybord. There is something satisfying about etching out highlights to create contrast that I love. Also, if I can add something relatable in the story that brings out value for the viewer, that is my ultimate desire.

2.  What made you stand out and achieve the current results?

I think it comes down to the intricate details found within my work, that makes it more unique than most. But also, the story behind the art and my composition of a design and how it resonates with the viewer.

3.  What are you good at doing?

I’m good at fine details with ink on paper or Claybord. Telling a story through visuals.  I'm also good at capturing a mood with paint.

4. Is there a skill you are trying to develop?

Just always learning about art techniques to help perfect my craftsmanship. Whether that is getting cleaner line work with a pen or being able to express an emotion with paint. Just pushing limits and innovating new ideas forward.

5. How do you see your brand develop in the future?

I see it becoming a global entity. I have a vision of being known in national magazines and galleries. Doing shows and murals in different cities around the world. I also see collaborations with high-end fashion brands. Also, I have a vision for designer apparel that will go along with a series of paintings.
